Those might be fights with rival gangs, groups of independent thugs, and very occasionally even the police or the Bureau of Prohibition's agents. You direct your chosen gang boss around the city, doing missions with bits of flavorful dialogue to enjoy and controlling a crew of hired guns in battles against other gangsters. Like many of Empire of Sin’s ideas, it's a brilliant concept: You have to keep a lot of violent people with poor impulse control both happy and alive in turn-based tactical RPG combat in the vein of XCOM. (They're in love.) The charm wore off a lot quicker than I’d have liked, though.įights quickly become rote due to mindlessly repetitive maps and poor, buggy combat AI.The challenge here is to run a complex illegal empire while also balancing the chaotic personalities of criminals both in your gang and outside it. There's even really delightfully over-the-top voice acting for nearly every character, littered with standout performances like gangster boss Frankie Donovan, aged Western sharpshooter Grover Monks, or the hammy duo performance of a gambling bookie and a button man. The writing and weird cast of characters, both fictional and fictionalized alike, have a lot of charm. The game has the potential to be incredible. For what it’s worth, Empire of Sin really embraces the Roaring ‘20s style, showing off Chicago streets that are initially fun to navigate and a roaring soundtrack of jazz mixed with some more modern pieces. I do hope they keep supporting it, though. Not with so many amazing games being released right now. For anyone that is still curious, my advice would be to wait a while, until it gets patched or at least a discount. I don't think anyone should get this at full price - specially with all that premium and deluxe editions bullsh*t. It should not have been released in this state, because the idea behind it is simply AMAZING. Like most of its systems either don't make sense or don't work at all. it feels rushed, unpolished, buggy, unbalanced. I'm afraid everything falls apart once you actually start the game. Everything sounded and looked so cool! A mix of empire simulator with X-COM tactical gameplay. I've been following this for a while, checking updates, release dates, gameplay videos etc. I've been following this for a It makes me so sad to realize that 'Empire of Sin' - a game that I have been waiting for so long - is bad. It makes me so sad to realize that 'Empire of Sin' - a game that I have been waiting for so long - is bad. Love it, thanks so much for this amazing game! … Expand Personally, I didn't run into a game breaking bug since launch and the ones I've encountered can be easily forgiven. They are aware of their shortcomings, Paradox is streaming on Twitch every other week, they constantly bring out new patches. And if you want a kickass gaming community, go and find them on Discord! Gamers and fans of games (not haters and trolls) come together there and share their thoughts, Romerogames listens and interacts, There is a corner for the history nerds - like for real, this game has it all. But the gameplay is so much fun, the characters have so much life in them (the ones based on real life gangsters and the fictitious ones). Yeah the launch was far from good but seriously, which launch is! Even the big ones continuously screw that up (hello Cyberpunk, hello Blizzard). ![]() Way underrated game! In a world of monsters and whimsical mages and dwarves it was about time we got a real life strategy game for mafia fans Way underrated game!
